A (Mini) Record Collection Tour with Alt Citizen

The quickest way to peek into my record collection is through my Instagram stories (more often) or Tiktok (less often, but some fun gems in there). So when Alt Citizen asked me to share some of my favorite records with them and give a little look into my collection, said yes and then immediately panicked wondering what I should share.

You kiiiind of know what you’re going to pick - something from Home, something from the home built with the warmth of a lifelong friendship, or whatever instrumental beat record you played at the last set, running the full spectrum of BPMs. I went local, that is local to my experiences.

The Tobacco A Go-Go compilation is the root of it all - my early love of ‘60s rock, original boy bands in matching suits before the hair got a little longer and before denim replaced dockers. M.I.A.’s Arular, the first “new” aka shrink wrapped vinyl I ever bought, blew me away with it’s joy, it’s darkness and the visualllssss. And I’ll get a twinge in my heart watching my gushing bit over Girls’ classic Father, Son, Holy Ghost, not knowing a few weeks later Chet White would shuffle off this mortal coil. The record is immortal, to me and to a few close friends, which is all that matters, right?

There’s more footage from that shoot, I’m pondering the best way to share it all. Stay tuned?
